How we compared
- What we looked at. Each tool's own store page, documentation, README, package page and, for the open-source ones, source code, as they were on 24 September 2026, and UsageMeter as it ships in version 1.6.0 (on Firefox Add-ons that day; the Chrome Web Store still listed 1.5.0). Links to each of them are in the cards above.
- The rows. 26 criteria in six groups: your limits; seeing the wall coming (when you would hit it, an alert before the limit and when it is back, the cost of each message, a Claude outage told apart from your limit); Claude Code; history and sharing, GitHub widgets included; devices and accounts, phones included; privacy, price and users.
- What a cell means. "Yes" and "No" are what the tool's own pages say; "Partly" comes with a note; "Not verified" means its pages do not say, and we did not guess. Paid features are marked as such.
- Users and ratings are the stores' public figures on that day. They measure how popular a tool is, not how good it is, and several of these tools have far more users than UsageMeter.
- What we did not do. Nobody paid to appear here, there are no affiliate links, and we did not rank the tools on a single score: which one is best depends on what you want to see, and where.
When a tool changes, write to us and we will update the table and the date. We plan to re-check every tool at least every three months.
Why the numbers differ between trackers
Claude reports your usage as percentages of your plan's limits, in Settings > Usage. Trackers get their numbers in three ways, sometimes combined, and that is why two of them can disagree:
- They read the percentages Claude reports, like UsageMeter, lugia19's Claude Usage Tracker, ClaudeKarma, SelectorsHub's Claude Usage Meter and the Chat Export tracker. Their numbers match Settings > Usage, but each one refreshes at its own pace, so two of them can be a few points apart for a while. On a free account, where Anthropic documents no usage bars, some read the figures Claude sends with each reply and others show nothing.
- They count tokens and estimate. lugia19's Claude Usage Tracker does this on top of Claude's percentages, to show how long a conversation is and what the next message may cost, which Claude does not report; those figures are estimates.
- They read Claude Code's local logs, like ccusage and Claude Code Usage Monitor. They see one computer's Claude Code sessions in detail, not your chats and not your other computers. Claude Code Usage Monitor also uses the official limits of Claude Code's status line when they are fresh.
FAQ
Do these trackers read my conversations?
It depends on what they do. Tools that count tokens or export chats have to read your conversations in your browser to do it; their privacy sections say what leaves your computer. Tools that only show limits read Claude's usage figures. UsageMeter never reads, stores or sends your conversations.
Which Claude usage tracker alerts you before the limit?
ClaudeKarma (at 75, 90 and 100%, off by default), SelectorsHub's Claude Usage Meter (at 50, 75, 90% or any threshold) and the Chat Export tracker (at a threshold you set) do it for free. UsageMeter does it with Pro: at your threshold, when your pace would block you soon and at 100%, never twice across your devices; it also tells you when a limit is back, which lugia19's Claude Usage Tracker does for free. In the terminal, Claude Code Usage Monitor shows warnings, and ccusage marks blocks near a token limit you set.
Which one tells you when you will hit the limit?
UsageMeter shows roughly the time you would be blocked at your recent pace, and Claude Code Usage Monitor predicts when the tokens of your Claude Code session run out. lugia19's Claude Usage Tracker and SelectorsHub's Claude Usage Meter show how many messages you have left, and ccusage projects the total of your current 5-hour block.
Which Claude usage tracker shows what each message costs?
lugia19's Claude Usage Tracker estimates what your next message will cost, from the length of the conversation. UsageMeter shows under each reply what it took from your session ("+1.8%"). In the terminal, ccusage's status line shows the cost of the current Claude Code session.
Which Claude usage tracker has GitHub widgets?
UsageMeter: free cards and badges for a GitHub README, a website, Notion or Obsidian, with more themes and widgets in Pro; nothing is public until you switch it on. We found no public widgets on the pages of the other six tools.
Which Claude usage tracker works with a free account?
lugia19's Claude Usage Tracker and UsageMeter (since 1.6.0) read the session and weekly figures Claude sends with its reply after you send a message. SelectorsHub's Claude Usage Meter and the Chat Export tracker are listed as working on Free, and ClaudeKarma's site says the same. Anthropic documents no usage bars for free accounts, so this can change.
Which trackers follow Claude Code?
ccusage and Claude Code Usage Monitor read Claude Code's local logs on one computer, and break them down by model, project and session or day. UsageMeter shows how much of your week went to Claude Code, and its Windows app, UsageMeter Link, adds up Claude Code tokens across your PCs; with Pro, it shows where they go: sub-agents, MCP servers and skills. Claude Code's own /usage only sees the computer it runs on.
Which one is best for Firefox?
Claude Usage Tracker has the most Firefox users (4,379 on Firefox Add-ons on 24 September 2026), then UsageMeter (1,698). SelectorsHub's Claude Usage Meter and the Chat Export tracker are also there, and Claude Usage Tracker, the Chat Export tracker and UsageMeter install on Firefox for Android too. We found no ClaudeKarma listing for Firefox.
What changed
- 24 September 2026, later that day: ten new criteria in six groups, among them when you would hit the limit, an alert before the limit and one when it is back (in place of a single "Notifications" row), the cost of each message, where Claude Code tokens go, GitHub widgets and phones. UsageMeter 1.6.0, and the store figures read again.
