When does my Claude limit reset?

Enter the time of your first message, or the time Claude shows: get the exact reset time in your time zone.

I know…

The first message you sent once the previous window was over.

Weekly reset (optional)

Settings › Usage shows the day and time your weekly limit resets. It is fixed for your account.

Free resets

If Claude offers you “Reset for free” in Settings › Usage, your limit comes back right away: on the web and in Claude Desktop only, and it cannot be undone.

Peak hours

Last published peak window: tomorrow, 12:00–18:00 your time.

Weekdays 05:00–11:00 Pacific Time, published by Anthropic in March 2026. It no longer applies to Claude Code on Pro and Max since 6 May 2026, and no current schedule is published for chats.

Calculated in your browser. Nothing you type or paste is sent anywhere.

How the 5-hour window works

Every Claude plan has a session limit on a rolling five-hour window. In practice, the window opens with the first message you send while no window is open, and your limit comes back about five hours later. Until then, everything you send in claude.ai, the desktop and mobile apps, Cowork and Claude Code counts against the same session.

A first message at 09:00 opens a window that ends around 14:00; a message at 14:30 opens the next one.5 h5 hLimit back ≈ 14:00First message 09:00Next message 14:3008:0010:0012:0014:0016:0018:0020:00
The window follows your first message, not the clock: it can end at any hour of the day.

Example: your first message goes out at 09:00, so your limit comes back around 14:00, whether you send three messages or three hundred. A message at 14:30 opens a new window, which ends around 19:30.

Anthropic does not say to the minute when a window starts, and some trackers count it from the top of the hour. The exact time is always in Claude: Settings › Usage shows the time remaining in your current session. That is why the calculator also accepts the time Claude shows, and the time left.

The weekly limit

Paid plans add a weekly limit that applies across all models. It resets at a fixed time each week assigned to your account: it does not depend on when you start using Claude or when your subscription began.

The calculator cannot guess it, so it asks for it: Settings › Usage shows the day and time of your next weekly reset. Enter them under “Weekly reset” to get a countdown next to the session one.

Free limit resets

Anthropic occasionally gives eligible plans a limit reset. Depending on the one shown, your five-hour session or your weekly limit goes back to full right away; you do not have to wait until you reach a limit to use it. It is in Settings › Usage on the web or in Claude Desktop (“Reset for free”), and on the message shown when you reach a limit, but not in the mobile app or in Claude Code. Once used it cannot be undone, and an unused reset expires on the date shown.

Peak hours

In March 2026 Anthropic said that 5-hour session limits move faster during weekday peak hours, 05:00–11:00 Pacific Time; weekly limits were unchanged. On 6 May 2026 that reduction was removed for Claude Code on Pro and Max. For chats, no end has been announced and no current schedule is published, so the tool shows that window as the last one published, converted to your time zone, not as a rule in force.

What this tool cannot know

The calculator does not read your account: it applies the five-hour rule to the time you give it, in your browser. It does not see your weekly limit unless you enter it, the usage of your other devices, or a change Anthropic may make to these rules. The UsageMeter extension reads the limits Claude shows you and keeps them on screen, with the exact countdown.

Questions

Does the Claude limit reset at midnight?

No. The session limit runs on a rolling five-hour window that starts with your first message, not on the clock. Only the weekly limit resets at a fixed time, and that time is specific to your account: Settings › Usage shows it.

Why does my reset time change from one day to the next?

Because each window starts with the first message you send once the previous one is over. Start at 08:00 and your limit comes back around 13:00; start at 10:00 and it comes back around 15:00.

Can I get my limit back earlier?

Only with a free limit reset, when Anthropic offers you one (Settings › Usage, “Reset for free”). Otherwise you wait, or, on Pro and Max, you turn on usage credits to keep working past the limit, billed at standard API rates.

Is the reset the same in the app and in Claude Code?

Yes. claude.ai, Claude Desktop, the mobile apps, Cowork and Claude Code draw from the same limits, so a session started in one counts in the others, and resets at the same time.
