03Outage or limit?

Is Claude down?

Right now, status.claude.com reports an incident: Elevated errors on platform.claude.com.

When Claude stops mid-reply, it is either an outage at Anthropic or one of your usage limits. The two look alike, but they are not solved the same way.

Probably a usage limit

  • Claude says you have reached a limit and tells you when it resets.
  • Your UsageMeter gauge (session or week) is at or close to 100%.
  • New conversations are blocked too, while status.claude.com shows nothing.

Probably an outage

  • A generic error, “Overloaded”, or a reply that stops without mentioning any limit.
  • Your UsageMeter gauges are far from 100%.
  • status.claude.com shows an incident on claude.ai, Claude Code or the API.

What to do

  1. Look at the Claude block at the top of this page, or at status.claude.com directly.
  2. Compare with your limits in Claude's usage settings or in the UsageMeter popup.
  3. An outage: wait a few minutes and try again. There is nothing to change on your side.
  4. A limit: the reset time Claude gives is the one that counts, and UsageMeter shows it too.

UsageMeter is an independent tool, not affiliated with Anthropic. Claude's status comes from status.claude.com as published there, with no information of our own about their systems.

How we measure

Our server tests each service every 5 minutes: the site and its API, the database, whether Stripe and Resend answer (without charging or sending anything), both store listings and the app's update files. claude.ai compatibility is the share of synced accounts whose claude.ai reading of the last 30 minutes succeeded; below 10 accounts it is not measured.
